Esta constituy\u00f3 la primera prisi\u00f3n de m\u00e1xima seguridad construida en Espa\u00f1a. En su seno tuvo lugar la aplicaci\u00f3n primaria de la reforma penitenciaria, que se desarroll\u00f3 de forma paralela a la pol\u00edtica. Esta tesis la hemos articulado en tres partes. En la primera parte, realizamos una aproximaci\u00f3n metodol\u00f3gica a la historia de la prisi\u00f3n y los usos hist\u00f3ricos de esta. Asimismo, nos aproximamos a la reforma penitenciaria, tomando la construcci\u00f3n de Herrera de la Mancha como un eje central en este proceso. En la segunda parte, reconstruimos la historia de Herrera de la Mancha a trav\u00e9s de los tres principales colectivos de presos que estuvieron all\u00ed recluidos: presos sociales, presos de los GRAPO y PCE(r) y presos de ETA.
